On Monday we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle from whence it came. A few of you were thrown by the lack of a traditional shift boot, but lh415cd was undeterred and correctly identified this week’s shifter as belonging to a Subaru XT6. lh415cd will receive a Save the Manuals button and sticker as a reward.
The XT6 pictured here participated in an eight-way sports coupe comparison test in our July 1989 issue. The $18,346 Subaru sported four-wheel drive and a flat-six engine producing 145 hp. If you think the boot-less shifter is unique, keep in mind that it lives in a rather unique interior highlighted by a steering wheel with asymmetrical spokes (one spoke extends horizontally from the center of the wheel to the rim at the 3-o’clock position, while another extends down to the six-o’clock position).
