A motor mechanic in Jaipur, Rajasthan, has designed cars to help the physically challenged to live their dream of getting behind the steering wheel to drive.

Mujeeb Khan, 39, told reporters: "I have designed a car in which all controls have been given to the hands. There is no city in India where I have not designed a car. There are only few places in India where I have not been able to go due to the distance. I have designed around 450 to 500 cars."

The car is designed such that the control is transferred to hands by the use of lever, wire and linkage mechanism.

Mahendra Joshi, who is specially abled, said the retrofitted cars have allowed the physically challenged to drive their cars with full confidence.

"It gives us 100 percent confidence and this innovation has helped us to drive the car with full confidence. We drive with public and no one realizes whether a man is specially abled or not. We drive in the same lane as others with an average speed of 60 to 70 kilometres," Joshi.

Khan's passion for driving compelled him to make essential changes in his father's car.

Khan also said that his successful experiment in his father's car gave a new idea to him and since then he started designing cars, which could be used by specially abled.
